The Role
Are you passionate about sports technology and eager to contribute to cutting-edge research in sport performance and injury prevention? We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our innovative research project in collaboration with an academic partner. This project aims to explore and understand the complex dynamics of player-surface interactions in football, focusing on how pitch characteristics influence player performance and injury risk.
The project utilizes Raw Stadia’s state-of-the-art technology to conduct frequent analyses of pitch conditions at different European clubs and study their impact on player performance and potential injury risks. This research is pioneering in studying these aspects in real-life settings. The learnings gathered will guide technical, performance and medical staff to understand and utilize the effect of the surface on their athletes whilst optimal pitch management and enhanced communication with grounds staff is facilitated through centralized data insights. The ultimate goal is to develop a unique interaction model, a tool for data-informed decision-making in pitch selection for training periodisation and footwear selection, thus optimizing performance and mitigating injury risk.
Key Responsibilities
● Conduct in-depth research and analysis of player-surface interactions using advanced technology.
● Collaborate closely with academic and industry partners to achieve project goals.
● Publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at international
● Develop the Player-Surface Interaction Model based on collected data and analysis.
● Contribute to the improvement of pitch management practices and communication
strategies among relevant stakeholders.
● Contribute to research and product development activities.
● Contribute to the development of Raw Stadia products.
● Work towards your PhD.

What You Bring
● Demonstrated academic excellence with a strong interest in sports technology.
● A Master’s Degree in Bioengineering, Biomedical Sciences, Physiotherapy, or Sports
● Strong analytical and research skills, with experience in data analysis and scientific
● Familiarity with sports technology and data collection methods.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English. Other languages are a
