Corda Campus begins construction on innovative studio spaces for businesses

09 March 2023

The 26 work studios are available for use from January 2024.

Hasselt’s Corda Campus, a 100% subsidiary of the ‘Limburgse Investeringsmaatschappij LRM’ has started work on demolishing the rear section of the current Corda 7 building. The old Philips building is set to make room for new, sustainable and innovative studio spaces that will fully connect into the DNA of the business campus. The new building will comprise functional work studios where innovative companies can craft their hardware and high-tech products. The 26 work studios are available for use from January 2024.

It is once again time for an update on Corda Campus. A section of the old Philips building, Corda 7, that has not been used for some time due to its condition, will be replaced by a sustainable, new building that fits in with the rest of the pioneering campus. In the 26 working studios, the ground floor will be used for testing and crafting hardware while the mezzanine offers a place for quieter tasks while remaining connected to the working processes on the ground floor.

The construction of this new Corda 8 building is one of the last elements of the conversion of Philips into the Corda Campus. “This was the last building that had to be tackled before we continue with the further expansion of the site. With this new building, we are also fulfilling the demand from innovative companies who are seeking multi-use workplaces for testing, building and development, while also being part of our dynamic campus community,” says Raf Degens, CEO Corda Campus.

“On Wednesday 1 March, we started the demolition work. Jaraco is proud to be able to collaborate on this handsome, sustainable building on this pioneering campus. A building where we can put our strengths to good use: identifying challenges and desires and translating these into action, all while creating a functional building with its own soul and identity,” explains Kris Knaepen, CEO of Jaraco. The new building will be distinct from the current Corda 7 building. A covered passageway will link up Corda 7 and Corda 8. The work studios will have large windows, allowing plenty of daylight to flood in. The environment will be filled with plants so users enjoy their time here and the area connects seamlessly with the rest of the campus. Businesses can move in from January 2024.
